Meet Daniel from A Cut Above: Where Quality Cuts and Community Meet!

Daniel is the proud owner of A Cut Above family butcher at Corio Village, known for its quality products, inclusive team, and strong community spirit. His journey in the industry began in 1996 when he left school in Grade 10 and started an apprenticeship at a butcher right here in the centre. Now, owning his own store in the same centre is a full-circle moment—and a testament to his dedication and passion.

Can you tell us a little more about your business and what inspired you to start it?

"We’re a local family butcher focused on quality and service. I started in the industry as a teenager and always dreamed of running my own store. Being back at Corio Village where it all began makes it even more special."

What’s your most popular item at the moment?

"Right now, customers are loving our Chicken Kievs and Bonza Burger Patties—they’re packed with flavour and perfect for easy dinners."

How long have you been working here and what do you enjoy most about the centre?

"I was born and raised in Corio, so this centre has always been part of my life. It’s a big centre, but it still feels like a local community where everyone’s doing life together."

What products or services do you offer that make your store unique?

"We offer a wide variety of meats, quick and easy dinner options, click & collect, home delivery, and even cuts for family pets. Our team is made up of locals, and we focus on attitude and willingness to learn. We’ve also won multiple industry awards, which is a great honour."

What’s the best part of your job?

"I love connecting with the community. Over the years, I’ve seen shoppers welcome new family members, remember loved ones, and celebrate milestones. It’s more than just selling meat—it’s being part of people’s lives."

What are your interests outside of work?

"I enjoy relaxing when I can, watching junior footy around Greater Geelong, and cooking on Sundays. I’m a Richmond Tigers supporter through and through."

What products are you loving right now?

"I’ve been getting back into slow-cooked meals. They’re versatile, budget-friendly, and perfect for making delicious dishes like pulled meat pastas and bakes."

What makes Corio Village a great place to shop?

"The community here values a humble lifestyle. It’s local, welcoming, and full of heart."

Do you have a favourite time of year in the centre?

"I love spring—the centre comes alive, the weather warms up, and there’s a buzz leading into the festive season. Personally, I also love winter—there’s nothing better than relaxing by the fire after a long day."
